Why didn't I come across this video sooner??!! Why didn't I come across Rachelle Ferrell sooner?? I guess better late then never.... You Wynton is cute...
I had a Rachelle Ferrell album in high school. I haven't listened to it for a while, but I was just hearing it in my head 25 years later. I gotta start listening to more of her. She is so amazing.
He has a tell when he's trying to figure out how to respond to Rachelle. When she went to the whistle register, his tell gave him away. He was trying to figure out how he was gonna follow that shit. He opted out immediately. 😂😂😂😂
Exactly, he conceded defeat with that low blues riff in response. It was good for him, he's one of the all time great players, but was kind of arrogant about it in his youth.
He know he can't do nothing with her! She's messing with him (3:17 the look on his face). They went to college together. It's so cute. I'd love to see them now in 2021 on stage together. We'd all have to just start on the floor 'cause that's where we'd end up by the time they got done knocking us out! 💖
wow thank you for this video!!AMAZING!! never seen her in such a strong discussion with him! XD my god those high notes and her substain and whatever she makes to have the buzz which tunrs her into a trumpet ...love that!! omg 5:38 from dirty middle to whistle register?? noway....
Rachelle Ferrell is the world’s greatest interpretive singer. No one can match the full range of capabilities she exhibits with her voice. It is truly a first instrument.
Really, it was a competition? I don’t know; she often invites musicians and singers on stage at her shows. Very welcoming to them to show off a little bit. And at the end of this video, she says something like “…that was Mr. Marsalis, everyone, give it up!” as if he is an invited guest during HER show… I know she did that with Jennifer Hudson. She was so open and nurturing, but JHud was so gracious and respectful that she low-key held back! Even so, Rachelle was musically “egging her on” like “Don’t hold back girl, I know you in there now….!” Overall Rachelle loves musicians who love music and speak the language fluently. So she welcomes them (us) on stage… one day, it’ll be me and my electric violin, and we’ll be in conversation…somewhat like this… 🎻😬✌🏼
@@erikm8372 Cutting contests are not necessarily unfriendly. This goes back to social dances in African villages. Make no mistake , this video is of a cutting contest. Yes they are friends and musical allies, and yes it was real competition. Watch what happens from about 5:32 to the end. She does something he can't match, and what he plays next, a lower register blues figure is him conceding. Look at the faces he makes.
Wow
Which one was the trumpeter? 😂😂😂😂😂
😂 Rachelle looking at Wynton with dem bedroom eyes. 😍 I believe she was crushing a lil’ bit. 🤦🏽♀️
Comme je dis toujours : "C'est pas que j'aime pas les chanteuses, c'est juste que j'aime Rachel Ferrel"
Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong were doing the " Holy Ghost" dance in heaven. Hallelujah!!

I think she really likes Marsalis !
She wore his ahhzz out!

That was a great performance.

Now understand why Mr. Marsalis always wants to stay a purist musically speaking.
où trouver disque ???????????,
5:40 Winton was like, F' it, I'm licked, I'm going low!!! LOL
Exactly!
Marsalis is like, "How the hell do I follow this?????" LOL
Go head preacha!

I Absolutely adore her and Will Downing's duets
Jill Scott….maaaybeee😊
@@hawkspitnureye Ms. Jilly from Philly does have the skills to pay the bills! ❤️🙏🏾
without question. no one can hold a candle to this masters range
@@hawkspitnureye Jill is nice, but Ferrell honestly occupies a space all to herself with regard to vocals. As if she descended from another planet
Did they date?
Shazam can't help me id this song, anybody know where i can get?
What a thrilling session! Goosebumps in a provocative interaction full of youth and talent.
One uses an instrument, one is an instrument. Very enjoyable to watch.
I agree
It seems that Wynton found it hard to concentrate with Rachelle scatting her heart out
Eish but they good
The stuff of Beauty
what a duo synchronicity
best female vocalist who can follow each instrument with her voice
Çiğ köfte yemiş galiba
A real modern day Ella! wow.
We are some amazing people!
Beautiful! Two Masters. Such history and knowledge that those two possess.

How high was she singing at 5:46. Not even a whistle note, just a very high trumpet sound
Good Lord She Is Talented 💙❤️she gifted
I would love to feel that WAY..
Even thought it wasn't really a competition the human voice won hands down !!!!!!!!!!!
*though
To be fair, rachelle's instrument isn't humanly.
It was a competition
